Students from the Polytechnic University of Madrid visit the Los Berrocales housing development project (Madrid)
Students from the Polytechnic University of Madrid have visited the Los Berrocales housing development project, one of the largest urban developments in the south-east. The project has been divided into a first phase, covering an area of 80 hectares, and a third phase covering 85 hectares, which is currently under construction. Regardless of the phases, the project encompasses all the activities required to develop the site: earthworks, sewerage network, utility networks, paving and finishes.
The students’ visit consisted of a brief presentation of the urban development project, as well as a tour of the green spaces in both phases, during which details regarding calculations, supplier management, implementation methodologies, quality criteria and species selection were shared... Emphasising the role of urban landscaping in the restoration of ecosystem services and the assessment of these through bioindicators.
An immersive experience for students and lecturers, where they were able to gain an up-close understanding of the role of the landscape architect working within a multidisciplinary team on public works projects. This role involves liaising and coordinating with all stakeholders to provide satisfactory solutions to the various challenges that arise, whilst striving to contribute to environmental improvement.
