Moeve has chosen us for the largest green hydrogen project in southern Europe

  • The energy company has commissioned Aqualia to carry out the engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the plant that will supply the MOEVE–ONUBA green hydrogen generation facilities, located in the La Rábida Energy Park in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva, Spain)

  • The project has a duration of 20 months and will reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 250,000 tonnes per year

  • Last year, Moeve commissioned the company to design, build, operate, maintain, and finance a demineralised water plant within the same energy park

Moeve has chosen us for the largest green hydrogen project in southern Europe

Aqualia Industrial has been selected by Moeve to design and build a new water supply plant for the production of green hydrogen, as part of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley initiative. This strategic project will drive the energy transition and energy independence through the development of this key energy source.

The first phase, ONUBA, will be developed at the La Rábida Energy Park (Huelva, Spain) and will be the largest green hydrogen project in southern Europe. It will have a capacity of 300 MW, expandable by a further 100 MW, and involve an investment of over €1 billion. It will enable the production of around 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year and prevent the emission of approximately 250,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Aqualia will build a plant capable of producing around 2,400 m³ of osmosis-treated water per day, which is essential for powering the electrolysers. It will incorporate advanced technologies such as ultrafiltration, two-stage osmosis and water recovery systems, ensuring an efficient, robust and optimised supply for this key process.

This contract strengthens Aqualia Industrial’s position as a strategic partner in projects related to the energy transition. It follows on from the contract awarded last year for the development of a demineralised water plant at the same complex, which iscurrently at an advanced stage of implementation, designed to remove virtually all mineral salts dissolved in the water using advanced processes such as reverse osmosis and electrodeionisation. The contract will enable Moeve to have a continuous and reliable supply of demineralised water for its new projects and its operations at the La Rábida Energy Park, optimising the performance of its equipment and reducing its environmental impact. Both projects together represent an investment of approximately 18 million euros.
