We have extended the water management contract in Jaén (Andalusia, Spain) by five years to support the city’s sustainable development

  • Aqualia has secured a contract with the city of Corpus Christi, Texas, for the design, construction and operation of an emergency brackish water desalination plant, as part of a $175 million public investment programme aimed at strengthening the city’s water security
  • In addition, the company will operate the modular reverse osmosis plant for a five-year period. The facility is expected to be operational in under a year, in response to a historic drought that has reduced the city’s reservoirs to just 9.5% of their capacity
  • The contract strengthens Aqualia’s presence in the North American market through its Texas-based operating platform, Municipal District Services (MDS), and confirms its position as a global benchmark in the end-to-end water cycle, as well as in engineering and large-scale water treatment plants
We have extended the water management contract in Jaén (Andalusia, Spain) by five years to support the city’s sustainable development

Aqualia has signed a strategic contract with the city of Corpus Christi, Texas, for the development of an emergency brackish water desalination plant, as part of a public investment programme of nearly $175 million aimed at safeguarding water supply amid a critical drought situation. The project forms part of a broader municipal strategy to strengthen water resilience in one of the most significant urban and industrial areas in the southern United States.

The solution designed by Aqualia is based on a modular, containerised reverse osmosis plant capable of producing up to 933 litres per second of drinking water, with phased commissioning and initial production scheduled within the first year. This approach shortens delivery times, ensures operational reliability and provides an effective response in a situation of extreme urgency, in line with the most advanced standards of efficiency and sustainability.

The contract also includes operation and maintenance for the first five years, to be carried out through Municipal District Services (MDS), Aqualia’s operating platform in Texas, combining local expertise with global experience. The project represents a new milestone for Aqualia, strengthens its positioning in the North American market and consolidates its role as a strategic partner for cities facing major water security challenges.

Corpus Christi is located on the Gulf of Mexico coast in southern Texas, within Nueces County. With a population of around 320,000, it is a key hub of the United States energy industry, established as the country’s leading crude oil export port and a major centre for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
